NIACE (The National Institute for Adult Continuing Education) has published an article on REM in its magazine Adults Learning Volume 14 Number 10
June 2003, which is available to order.

Positively Healthy was awarded a grant by The Adult and Community Learning Fund, set up by the Department for Education and Skills, to conduct research into the barriers faced by HIV positive gay men during enrolment or whilst attending courses at local Adult Education Colleges. This project is targeted at gay men in the boroughs of Richmond and Kingston upon Thames.

Based on the results of a questionnaire, a good practice manual has been produced for use as a training tool for staff within local colleges.

The Registered Enabled™ Manual is available to read here

This manual, entitled Registered Enabled™, is intended to inform the tutors and raise awareness of the specific needs of HIV positive gay men, as well as identifying potential obstacles faced by us during enrolment or on courses. This project will lay the foundation for the programme to be rolled out across London and eventually to the rest of the United Kingdom.

This project is a partnership between Positively Healthy, Richmond Council for Voluntary Service and Richmond Adult Community College. To ensure total confidentiality, Positively Healthy will process all data.

Positive About Work   Physchological Impact Project

We are pleased to make available Positive About Work, research conducted by its founder Richard Meyer of The Globe Centre, who has kindly given us permission to put this on-line. Richard's research examined the options for HIV positive people returning to work and it is helpful and valuable to examine these data in conjunction with Registered Enabled's data. This document is in Adobe Acrobat format (264kb file size) and you will need Acrobat Reader to view. If you do not have it , it is free to download from Adobe.   We are honoured to have received permission to reproduce the document entitled "Physchological Impact Project" (PIP) ,research conducted by Wayne Barton and Andrew Hanuman of the UK Coalition of People living with HIV and AIDS (UKC). This research documents the various deletrious side effects suffered by those on anti-HIV medication leading in many cases to severe physchological trauma and even suicide.

RACC Evaluation

The Manual was presented to the staff of Richmond Adult Community College at three seminars on 14, 21 and 28 November, after which time the good practice guidelines in the Manual were adopted as best practice for Local Adult Education Colleges in Richmond-upon- Thames.
