BHAN (Black HIV AIDS
Network) - The Metropolitan Police completed an investigation
into the Black HIV/AIDS Network (BHAN) after it was discovered
that over £500,000 had disappeared from the organisation's
funds. The massive fraud was uncovered when newly-appointed
director, Esmee Sargeant, examined the group's accounts. BHAN's
former treasurer, Bijon Sinha, disappeared shortly after Sargeant
began her enquiries and fled the country. Sinha got away with
it because the white funders would not investigate a Black
Agency.
Terrence Higgns Trust and Frontliners
- Frontliners, the people with AIDS
Charity housed within the Terrence Higgins Trust dominated
fundraising and the AIDS agenda for a number of years until
they were forced to close in 1992 having imploded from within.
Frontliners officials released the results of an internal
investigation confirming maladministration, mismanagement
and financial fraud which resulted in the company Frontliners
(UK) Limited being dissolved and the agency being closed down.
Terrence Higgins Trust was nearly brought down
in 1991 when a series of scandals were published in the National
Press detaling allegations of maladministration, mismanagement
and financial fraud, following revelations made by a whistle-blower
who had headed an internal investigation on these issues and
was then forced to resign.
The HEAL Trust - UK's
first and only Holistic HIV/AIDS Treatment Centre, The HEAL
Trust, secured £500,000 from Elton John AIDS Foundation
and other agencies and moved into deluxe premises in Vauxhall.
However, they never opened their doors and closed following
massive internal scandals and disruptions alleging maladministration,
mismanagement and financial fraud. A dossier was submitted
by HEAL's employees and volunteers to the Charity Commission
but as HEAL had closed at this time no investigation was made.

Commissioners can be read here.
